How the Exfo fiber optic pen works
The way the fiber optic pen works is as follows: we connect the fiber optic pen to the fiber optic cable and turn it on. This pen, which is also known as a laser pen, as its name suggests, emits laser light from itself into the optical fiber blinds, so that if there is a problem in the path of the desired cable and the light exits from the fiber break or the light does not show at the end Trace the path to the shapes in optical fiber.
Uses of laser pens
Diagnosis of bad fusion welding performed by fiber optic fusion device.
A break in the fiber optic strand along the path of the fiber optic cable.
Sharp bends with greater bending radius than standard optical cable capacity.
Bad connection of the fiber optic connector at the end of the fiber optic cable.
The mentioned problems are all detectable by fiber optic pen.
Laser pen operation
As we mentioned in the section on how the optical fiber pen works, the optical fiber pen uses the spectrum of visible laser light to be seen by the human eye and the naked eye.
When the laser pen is connected to the connector that is connected to the end of the fiber optic cable, the laser light of the laser pen moves along the path of the fiber optic cable, and if a standard cable with a suitable coating of laser light is used, the laser light will be emitted if there is a break in the fiber optic cable. At the breaking point, the cable is removed from the cover and the defective location is identified.
In some cases, when the optical fiber connector or the connection is at the point of fusion or splicing, their movement causes the light output of the other end of the optical cable to be disconnected and connected.
One of the models available in the fiber optic bank and network and market is Exfo. Fiber optic pens have different models that are fiber optic pens.
