Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Minister of Information and Communications Technology has said that some 8 to10 million Iranian households and businesses will be covered by optical fiber until March 19, 2024.

In an interview with Iranian television late on Monday, Issa Zarepour said that the development of fiber optic technology in Iran is being pursued by the Iranian government seriously.

Iranian Minister said that around 2.7 million Iranians are currently covered by optical fiber, adding that some 3 million Iranian households will be covered on the occasion of World Communications Day.

He added that the fixed broadband internet speed in Iran is 11 Mbps, but in the cities that are covered with optical fiber, the speed is up to 900 Mbps.
